Things to do in Zadar

Zadar's Old Town sits on a narrow peninsula, compact enough to cover on foot in a couple of hours. Start at the Roman Forum and the round, 9th-century St Donatus Church, then walk to the Cathedral of St Anastasia, whose bell tower can be climbed, and on to Five Wells Square and the 1543 Land Gate.

At the tip of the peninsula, the Sea Organ (2005) sounds from wave movement alone, never wind or electricity, next to the Greeting to the Sun (2008), a circle of solar panels that lights up after dark. Zadar Airport (ZAD) is 8-10 km from the centre; ferries leave from Gaženica port, with small boats to Preko on Ugljan from the old harbour.

Legend, not a documented quote, credits Hitchcock with calling the sunset here the world's most beautiful.
