Things to do in Šibenik
Šibenik's old town centres on the Cathedral of St James, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, built entirely of stone by Juraj Dalmatinac and Nikola Firentinac, with a frieze of 71 carved heads running around its exterior.
Four fortresses ring the town — St Nicholas, St Michael, Barone and St John — and several scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed here, standing in for Braavos. St Nicholas Fortress, at the harbour mouth, is part of the same UNESCO listing as Zadar's Venetian walls: "Venetian Works of Defence between the 16th and 17th Centuries," inscribed in 2017.
Šibenik also works as a base for Krka National Park, a short trip away, with combined tours pairing the cathedral and fortresses with the park's waterfalls.
